Name Master of Science - Industrial Engineering
    Place of study Narvik, Norway
    Number of terms 4
    Starting term Autumn
    Teaching language English
    Target group

The study program is mainly intended for students with a bachelor degree in mechanical, electrical power or electronics engineering.

    Professional opportunities

With a M.Sc. degree in industrial Engineering, you have excellent job opportunities as the study equips you with a comprehensive knowledge set in dealing with technical and managerial challenges in manufacturing industries; i.e. automation, oil and gas, mechanical and electrical, logistics and shipping.

Many of our former students are holding managerial positions in public or private companies, and some have continued their education towards a Ph.D. degree at a university or a research institute.

    What do you learn

Industrial Engineering is about to see "the big picture" when one is dealing with complex processes and systems. The field focuses on analyzing the many ‘wheels’ that must work together so that an organization is able to function in the most efficient and profitable way.

As a student, you will get insight into diverse methodologies, techniques and tools that you may apply to enhance the organization's performance. The capability you gain through this study makes you particularly well suited to a leadership position.

The study also emphasizes the application of advanced information technology. We have one of the most advanced virtual manufacturing laboratories in Norway. The laboratory provides both hardware and software facilities for modeling and simulating, i.e., production processes, complicated logistics systems,  as well as whole supply chains,  in a full 3D virtual working environment.

Students may work in one of our many industrial projects as part of their final M.Sc. thesis. This provides unique opportunities to get in contact with a possible future employer. To enhance a solid cooperation with companies, students have about 28 weeks to work with their thesis and is rewarded with 45 credits upon completion.
It is also possible to complete the M.Sc. thesis project at one of our international cooperative universities.  Our partners includes many prominent universities around the world (e.g. China, U.S., Hungary, Sweden, Germany and Spain)

    Further education

Want to "dig deeper" in the subject areas that you’ve been through during M.Sc. study? We offer Ph.D. study in cooperation with Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Luleå University of Technology.

    Key topics

Industrial Engineering education teaches subjects such as computer aided design and manufacturing, industrial robotics, optimisation, data management, computer integrated and virtual manufacturing, Lean & Six Sigma, production logistics, and supply chain management.

It adds up to a high degree of project-based teaching, which is becoming increasingly important in an era where the focus on ability of innovative teamwork increases. Through the study, students are also strongly encouraged to improve their communication and dissemination capabilities.

    Entrence requirements

To be admitted to the study program a bachelor degree in mechanical, electrical power or electronics is required. Applicants with other backgrounds may be admitted based on a professional evaluation.
