The Grading System

ECTS (European Community Course Credit Transfer System)  grading scale.

Narvik University College uses two different grading systems:

1. "Pass - Fail"
The assignment requirements which must be met in order to take the examination are usually graded
as "Approved - Not approved".

2. From the autumn term of 2002 the University College changes from "figure scale" to the
 "letter scale" in order to conform to the new Quality Reform.

The following grades were adopted at Norwegian College Board Meeting 4 / 2002 :

Excellent, outstanding performance.
Shows a great ability to work independently

Very good

Very good performance, above average.
Shows an ability to work independently
C Good

Average performance, satisfactory in most areas

D
Fair

Below-average performance, with some serious gaps

E

Pass

Performance which barely meets the minimum requirements
F
Fail

Performance which does not meet the minimum requirements



The Head of Department at each Institute is responsible for preparing the necessary guidelines for
the external examiners in each subject.
